3/9/09, Monday- meet at the library again :)

Group 1A:                                      Report #1: Due- 2/26/09

Michael Bates

Jared Kennedy

Nicole Aia

Donna Jones

At our first meeting we discussed several topics such as cars, computers, planes, cell phones, movies/TV, and guns. We figured life without these “essentials” would be unbearable for a civilization that has relied on this technology for so long. We pursued further designs in transportation. If transportation arose in a dissimilar way, maybe we wouldn’t encounter long transit times due to increased traffic, destruction of the environment (air pollution), and having to fill up and pay for our precious gas every week. Car accidents are also the leading causes of death in the US (besides other diseases such as heart disease). Society would benefit if this technology had been created in an alternate way. Reduced air pollution, improved fuel efficiency, and dropping our dependence on foreign oil are just a few benefits.  We looked into the use of electric power and mass transportation. Power or electric lines could also be used.  A concern for us was the amount of time it would take for the vehicle to charge and the speed it could get up to.

Have you ever waited on a deli line after getting all of your groceries? You are standing there on line in the grocery store for almost a half an hour as your ice cream melts to the floor. What can be done about this? For the second part of the assignment we are looking into how this technological breakthrough (automatic deli-slicer) could have great profits as well as drawbacks. This technological advance will help grocers move through the store with excellent speed and they will also avoid any frustration between other deli-line members.

1st group meeting

We discussed various technologies such as movies/TV, computers, cars, planes, cell phones, and guns. We decided that we would go with cars and cell phones as a backup. We thought about modes of transportation that would replace cars such as electric power. We thought of ways to make an electric bus and motorized bicycles.

This Thursday- 2/12/09

Hey guys! Since we don't have class this Thursday, I figured we could all meet in the library at 12:30. Lets plan to meet each other on the 2nd floor at that table when you first walk up the steps. If you have a laptop or materials that serve as "inspiration" for us please bring them.
Thanks! See ya then.
